Varietals Planted: Nebbiolo

Bottling: Sandrone Barolo Le Vigne

Vineyard description:

Cerretta di Perno (to distinguish it from the more well-known Cerretto of Serralunga d’Alba) is a hard-to-reach vineyard between the hamlets of Perno and Disa in the commune of Monforte. It is very steep, difficult to farm and remote. Called “Srea” in the Piedmontese dialect, it was nearly abandoned in the sixties but has been re-cultivated over the last few decades. It produces wines of freshness and vivacity, though no producer bottles it as a cru on its own.

Township: Monforte d’Alba

Soil: Tufaceous, with red earth, heavy. Difficult water penetration, which can stress the vines.

Exposure: South-Southeast

Density: Plants per hectare: 4000

Average Age of vines: 21 years (2010)

Training: Guyot basso

Altitude: 300m

Yields: 32-35 hl/ha

Area: 0.8 ha

The Family: Luca

LangheLuca Sandrone is an avid bicyclist and skier, and the younger brother of Luciano. Luca is responsible for the vineyards and insures that the fruit coming to the winery each year is perfectly mature.
